Holding on to what is good

“What’s good in your life right now?”

A dear friend recently asked me that question (she also happens to be in the women’s collective!) during my latest visit to my dad, who is living with advanced dementia in this precious last chapter of his life.

I am so grateful for the question.  I am so grateful for the opportunity to direct my attention to what is nourishing me.

How can you stay healthy and present, even in the face of so much pain and destruction?

These times are calling for us to cultivate our tools, stretching our human capacity to witness the darkness that lives in all of us, and still, to continue to find reasons and moments to smile.

It is so powerful to take a moment to recognize what you have, to give thanks for what is good in your life.

It is so healing to just simply notice what is feeding you, and feed it back with your love.  This love can express itself in a momentary thought, literally taking notice and in so doing, giving thanks.

Grateful that we have what to be grateful for.
