That ceremony really moved me — and the magic disappeared when I went back to my routine.  Now what?

It happens to me too.  All the time.

During the night, in front of the fire, I can feel the magic that lives in us all, I can see that magic weaving more and more beauty, and when the sun rises my eyes feast on the buffet of colors.

My whole body vibrates with the song of the birds.

And then, once it’s all over, usually when I look again at my phone, even if it’s just to see the time - I land in another reality.  Of course, this reality existed during the whole magical night, we prayed about it - but my relation to it felt different.

Do you know what I mean?

It is special (and essential) to create extraordinary spaces with the specific purpose of opening our relation to spirit.  Humans have always nourished and been nourished by ceremony.

And, you and I live in a world full of mundane tasks.  When you approach them with an attitude of doing-to-get-this-done, then you can really feel like a machine.

When you approach your day with gratitude, everything feels different.

Taking one deep breath to stop and recognize

who we are,

what we have

is taking a moment of gratitude.

Try it, if you like.

My beloved teacher, Carmita, says

‘no hay desconexión, solo hay falta de atención.’

There is no disconnection, only lack of attention.

May our attention be the deepest expression of our gratitude.

I have noticed that my attention is so quickly captured by something else, and the beauty I touched in that retreat/ceremony/dance/song seems gone.

How can we return our attention to the things that are truly important to us?
