Making offerings to life

For as long as humans have walked the earth

we have made offerings

for so many reasons

to ask for protection

to give thanks

to honor someone who has gone

or someone who is being born.

We have always lived in reciprocal relations

with all of life. 

As we recognize that the cycle of life

birth

growth

maturity

death

decay

rebirth

is the authority that guides us

we also recognize that 

the dance between

giving

and 

receiving

is like the movement of the day and the night

the inhale and exhale

this very same cycle

that governs everything. 

The human mind

needs to make offerings

tangible gifts to the universe 

to anchor you again

in the reality of existence. 

You, like me and everyone else, are part of a larger web

of community

of family

of relations

and the way that you feed those relations

creates the fertile earth

in which the seeds of your life can sprout. 

What does it mean to really give something to life?
